Dress Policy

It is expected that all learners will have a suitable bag to carry books and equipment every day. Parents / carers are asked to support school policies on uniform and appearance.

The Darton College uniform rule is simple: wear the uniform, and wear it correctly.

Boys Uniform

  • Plain, black trousers should be worn. Jeans or chinos are NOT allowed.
  • Trousers should not be worn on the hip.
  • Plain, white collared shirt, NOT polo shirts.
  • Shirts must be worn tucked in and should therefore, be a suitable length.
  • Shirts should be worn buttoned to the neck, this includes the top button. Compulsory clip on ties must be worn. A Delta Academies Trust tie will be issued to all learners free of charge in September 2018 for the academic year 2018/19.
  • Plain, black blazer with the Darton College logo embroidered onto the breast pocket must be worn at all times.
  • Plain, black traditional shoes, no training, canvas or backless shoes. No logos.
  • Ankle boots must be worn underneath trousers.
  • Knee length boots are NOT acceptable.
  • Laces should be fastened appropriately. Bright coloured laces are NOT acceptable.
  • A plain, black Darton College sweatshirt / v neck jumper is optional and can be worn with a blazer but not as a replacement.

Girls Uniform

  • Plain, black knee length skirt straight or pleated is allowed. Denim, stretch, lycra or canvas is NOT acceptable.
  • Natural, black tights or plain, white socks.
  • Plain, black CLASSIC or bootcut trousers in polyester cotton. Zips, jeans, chinos and leggings are NOT allowed.
  • Plain, white collared shirt NOT polo shirts or blouses.

Boys and Girls PE Uniform

  • Red and black Darton PE top, with the school logo is compulsory.
  • Black shorts / Skorts or tracksuit bottoms must be worn.
  • Leggings are not acceptable unless worn for Dance.
  • Appropriate footwear must be worn for all PE activity.

Outdoor Coats

  • Coats should be a subdued colour and plain material. Sweatshirts, hooded tops, sportswear, cardigans and jumpers are NOT allowed unless purchased from Wishing Well, our official uniform supplier.

Hair/Makeup and Jewellery

  • Extreme haircuts and non natural hair colours are not permitted in school. Learners who have hair styles that are considered inappropriate will be asked to have their hair modified.
  • No makeup is to be worn except discreet foundation. No nail varnish, acrylics or nail extensions can be worn.
  • Jewellery is NOT permitted in school. A watch may be worn but not a smart watch.

Earphones and Accessories

  • Phones must be switched off and out of sight at ALL times. At no time must learners use their mobile phones to record videos or take pictures of other people in school. Mobile are only allowed on at the end of the school day when learners leave the school premises. Learners who contravene this rule will have their device confiscated and parents and carers will be expected to collect them at the end of the school day.
  • iPods, cameras, earphones, portable music devices are NOT allowed.
  • If a learner infringes the uniform policy and a personal item is confiscated, the school cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to any item.
